The open road is calling for us – or California roads are calling for us I should say. Many a trip has been cancelled this spring and summer, but recently we decided to take this no-fly time as an opportunity to visit some spots in our home state. We haven’t taken a road trip in a while and I’m excited to travel by just getting in the car and going. I miss visiting other parts of the country and world, but sometimes it is nice not to worry about luggage restrictions, long TSA lines, and rushing to arrive at the airport to just hurry up and wait.
We have been taking the COVID-19 recommendations and restrictions very seriously, and we still think we can travel by car and remain safe. We are stopping in places where the main draw is to be and get outside, and I am excited to (safely and with necessary precautions) have a change of scenery. I am looking forward to “taking you all with me” as I will be posting photos and videos along the way of where we will be stopping and what activities we will be partaking in.
I know this trip will be different and part of me is a little bit nervous and part of me is just so thrilled to have something fun to look forward to on the calendar. Along with the usual packing list, I’m thinking of things like bringing our own pillows, having enough face masks so that I can have one to wear while I wash others, and, of course, lots of cleaning wipes. There is no question that there is more to think about and bring while traveling during this COVID-19 time.
During this unpredictable time, there’s a constant weighing of the options and thinking of the pros and cons to any activity (as there should be). There is no doubt that this trip will be unlike any other road trip we have taken before. Some places may not be open, we will avoid any spot that we think may have large crowds, and we will be spending lots of time outdoors when we aren’t in the car. Instead of jam-packing lots of activities or places in, we can take our time and see how it goes. Luckily, a trip centered around relaxation and nature sounds perfectly fine to me.
I think we all are living more day-to-day during this pandemic time. We don’t know what the future will hold and we don’t know what will be open or closed in the upcoming weeks or what the new regulations will be. What I do know is that it will be nice to add in some adventure, visit places we have never been, and have some true vacation time. I have no doubt that we’ll be rocking masks in some of our travel photos – good thing I purchased some cute ones ;). For now, I’ve got to get packed up and get ready to be “on the road again.”
