It seems like Santa Barbara has skipped spring and jumped straight into summer. We have been having 80-degree-plus days here lately. The good news is that the high temperatures make for perfect beach weather, and with so much time at home, I’ve been loving any excuse to get out of the house. The bad news is that home workouts are hotter than ever – I may need to invest in more fans or wake up earlier – nope, just the fans.
I’ve been searching for some spandex/bike shorts to wear while I’m working out or even just out and about in this hot weather. I’ve played volleyball for decades so the spandex-shorts trend is right up my alley too. However, I didn’t want to spend upwards of $60 just for one pair of little bike shorts – especially when I wanted to buy a few pairs.
But I found some awesome shorts and they are inexpensive and sustainable. These spandex shorts from Target are made of 79% recycled polyester! I bought these shorts in the 4-inch length and the 7-inch length (see photos for the difference). They fit well, pass the not-see-through squat test, and I love that the majority of the short is made from recycled materials!
I also purchased a few t-shirts too. Bike shorts don’t have to be just for working out anymore though (shout out to the Kardashian sisters), so I paired them with the shirts for a relaxed, easy, and, most importantly, comfortable look. The floral print shirt is another sustainable find because it’s made with 53% recycled cotton! I also appreciate the “Save the Bees” message of the shirt and that it incorporates flowers that bees are attracted to – clever and cute.
The other shirts are not made out of recycled materials sadly, but I included them to show you all the rest of my purchase. These shirts are a juniors’ fit, but since I think Target clothing tends to run a bit bigger, I still thought the fit would be fine and it was. I did size up to a medium to be on the safe side and because I enjoy an oversized t-shirt fit. I’m wearing APL shoes and this style is so comfortable and is made using no animal products (100% vegan). Now, if only I had time to hit the beach today ;). Happy sustainable shopping!
