Upon moving into our new home, we jumped into some major remodeling, but now that the big items have been checked off, I have the time and focus to zero in on some smaller design details. I can step back a bit now and ask myself, “Hmmm, do I love that there?” or “Does this really go here or is there a better spot for it?” I think my husband immediately starts busying himself with another task when he hears me ask, “Hey, what do you think about moving this over to that other room?…” But sometimes you need to “play” with a room – especially if you are a visual person like I am.
I also am a plant person. I think I have a green-ish thumb, but, to be fair, the fact that succulents are so popular in California makes it pretty easy. It’s fairly difficult to kill succulents (I have done it though – most of the time it’s from overwatering…). A lot of the items that we own are multipurpose because we live in a small space (think of an ottoman with a storage compartment or a table with a drawer), but I couldn’t resist these milking/farmhouse stools. I love the reclaimed wood look and how it pairs with the plants for a very organic and simple feel. I also added some pots with a little bit of texture and/or color to make them stand out against our white walls.
I purchased these two stools from a local consignment furniture shop, but I found a similar option here. I didn’t pot the succulents myself on and under the small mantle stool, but I believe I picked them up from Trader Joe’s or Home Depot. I did plant the pots on top of the larger stool – the textured pots on the sides are from Marshalls but the center pot is from Amazon.
I think these stools are very versatile; you could also style one with a vase of flowers or put one next to a tub to easily display some bath products. If you get stuck on where to put one, at least you have a place to sit and think about it for a minute ;).
