I’m Betsy, but you can call me Bets. I wanted to create a space where I could share life updates, friendly advice, design inspirations, home projects, travel tips, fashion finds, and shopping loves. After years of letting writing fall by the wayside, I decided that it was time to start making it a priority again, thus The Bets Life was born.

I graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder where I was a student of the Creative Writing Program. After college, I dabbled in magazine and travel-website internships and fashion-magazine blogging. I also started a career in real estate, specializing in “flipping houses” and managing my own rentals. While the landlord life has not always been glamorous, I have always relished a creative project.

I met my husband, Patrick, in 2011 during my time at Boulder, and we were married in 2017. After stints in Denver, CO and Madison, WI, we moved back to Santa Barbara, CA where I was born and raised. I feel very fortunate to live in this beautiful place nestled between the mountains and the sea. I delight in hiking, restaurant sampling, cocktail sipping, and relaxing with a book and toes in the sand. If you can’t tell already, I’m a big fan of California living. We have two cats, Lucy and Finnegan, and they make both excellent and distracting writing companions for me (*cue cat walking across the keyboard*).

One of my greatest joys is also sharing my (hopefully relatable) life stories in my Real Talk posts. My goal is to always provide insight, inspiration, and a few laughs with my writing, photos, and videos. Just like most people, I know that I’m constantly striving to live my best life ever.
